Munnar Tourism


Munnar is one of the beautiful and famous hill station towns of Kerala. Munnar hill station is located at a distance of 48 Km from Idukki in Idukki district. Munnar is situated on the Western Ghats and 4760 feet above sea level. The picturesque location and pleasant climate makes Munnar a perfect holiday destination.

Munnar TourismIt is believed that the word Munnar is derived from Malayalam word "Munu" (three) and "Aaru" (rivers) which means the town is located at the confluence of three rivers, Muthirappuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly.

In the year 2000, Kerala state government declared Munnar as a Tourist destination. This resulted more tourists to visit this beautiful hill station. This hill station is filled by vast expanses of tea plantations, grand bungalows, rivulets, waterfalls as well as awesome climate. Munnar is also a perfect vacation spot for trekking as well as mountain biking.

Mattupetty: Mattupetty is located at a distance of 13 Km from Munnar. Mattupetty with its flourishing green tea plantations, rolling grasslands as well as the Shola forests can also be ideal for trekking; the place is also home to a number of birds.

Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary: Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary is located at a distance of 15 km from Munnar. Rajamala wildlife sanctuary is the natural habitat of Nilgiri Tahr, a unusual Mountain goat. This sanctuary is part of Eravikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, visitors are permitted to a few tourism locations within the Rajamala region.

Echo Point: Echo Point is one more picturesque location that is located at a distance of 15 km from Munnar. The Echo Point is can be reached on the way towards Top Station. This tourism spot gets its name because of the natural echo happening at this place. This is a wonderful sightseeing location with panoramic views.

Top Station: Top Station is located at a distance of 27 Km from Munnar. It is situated 1900 meters above sea level. The Top Station offers a panoramic view of the Tamilnadu state. It is one of the locations in Munnar to enjoy the Neelakurunji flowers blooming over a vast area. This flower which bathes the hills in the blue every twelve years
