Thiruvallam Parasurama Temple


Thiruvallam Parasurama Temple is one of the most ancient temples of Kerala and regarded as the only temple dedicated to Lord Parasurama. The temple is located banks of River Karamana near Thiruvallam at a distance of 6 Km from Thiruvananthapuram and 9 Km from Kovalam Beach as well as Thiruvananthapuram Airport.

Thiruvallam Parasurama TempleIt is believed that the Thiruvallam Parasurama Temple has been constructed in 12th and 13th century and it is the protected monument by the Archaeology Department of Kerala. The temple is managed by the Travancore Devaswom Board.

The Thiruvallam Parasurama Temple is also famous for Balitharpanam (a tribute to the ancestors) and many devotees visit this temple to make offerings to their ancestors, after taking a dip in the holy river. It is also believed that Jagadguru Adi Shakaracharya offered the Bali for his mother at this place.

As per the legend, Lord Parasurama, the creator of Kerala and the temple dedicated to him is believed to be a holy place for his devotees.

The Parasurama Temple at Thiruvallam opens in the morning as well as also in the evening for Poojas. The best time to visit the temple is either in morning or in evening.
