Thalassery Fort
Thalassery Fort is located in the heart of Thalassery town in Kannur district. Thalaserry fort is located at a distance of 22 Km from Kannur. The fort was built in 1708 AD and it was the military centre for the British.
After British established their settlement in the Malabar Coast and constructed the Thalaserry Fort. In 1700, the British constructed the Thalassery Fort on a small hill called Tiruvellapadkunnu and in the year 1708, it had been strengthened by raising its height as well as with bastions. This fort is a real testimonial for their colonial imperialism.
The square structure of the Thalassery Fort is built of laterite and is distinguished by its massive ventilated walls and robust flanking bastions. The fort also has secret route to reach the sea and intricately carved huge doors. Haider Ali's captain was imprisoned in this fort.
The Thalassery fort features a cemetery as well as the collector's mansion nearby. A lot of British officials are laid to rest in this cemetery that is named after Sir Edward Brennen.
The popular St. John's Anglican Church is located behind Thalassery fort.
