Kappad Beach
Kappad Beach is one of the most charming and popular beaches of Kerala. The rock studded beach is locally known as Kappakadavu.
Located at a distance of 20 Km from Kozhikode, Kappad Beach is an amazing attraction of this landscape is the rock that protrudes into the sea. For the visitor, on the other hand, this small sea faring place is really a haven. A journey down the backwaters via the Korappuzha River brings you to the Kappad beach.
Portuguese voyager Vasco Da Gama landed port of Panthalayani, 6 Km away from kappad on 20-May-1498. A stone monument there commemorates the landing with the writing, "Vasco Da Gama landed here, Kappakadavu, in the year 1498." His voyage gave the Europeans a sea path to access the wealth of Malabar Coast, moreover resulted in European dominance of India for approximately 450 years.
The best route to Kappad is along the backwaters. Un-spoilt as well as un-crowded, the scenic backwater of Kozhikode gives a bewitching feel.
